Alright.. my dog nipped my ..

My dog was startled when my friend stepped over the baby gate to get a drink. (we keep our dogs in the kitchen with company because they beg) she is not an aggresive dog. she was sleeping and he kinda stomped down about an inch away from her face. Im not putting blame on him. She did not mean to hurt him. Unfortunately she was so close to him it did break the skin. He said it was fine and that he would be ok. The next evening we got a call saying that it was swollen and red and they were worried about rabies... She doesnt have anything and i tried to reassure them but they decided to go to the er without letting us know. We cant afford an er bill but we could paid for a DRs Care bill. ($1500 compared to $150). Im worried about getting stuck with this bill. I know we are responsible but we cant afford it! Like i said Drs Care=ok! What do u think we should do? They said we wouldnt have to worry about it.

They can sue you now or later. It is better to crate the dog, for the safety of the dog, not just the visitor.

You will just have to wait and see what happens. If you have homeowners insurance, it should cover the costs. If they sue, you might have to see a bankruptcy attorney or other "debt" attorney, who can familiarize you with your optinos in your state. In some states, they might be able to garnish wages. In some states they can do nothing.

If the kid went to a doctor, then by law, the doctor must turn in the dog bite to the county animal control. You may be looking at some other costs too. I'm sorry.
