The main function of chloroplast is to absorb sunlight in order for photosythesis to take place. The chloroplast consists of many thylakoids that contain a photosynthetic pigment called chlorophyll. The photons from the light react with this chlorophyll in the chloroplast to give rise to photosynthesis.
