Proteins are a major component of the cell membrane. The phospholipid bilayer contains integral proteins, peripheral proteins, and transport proteins. Transport proteins aide in active transportation and facilitated diffusion. Proteins also acts like a cell marker to let other cells of the body know that it is not foreign.
